Few things have been more detrimental to the evolution of cannabis than the fear of getting too stoned. Despite massive amounts of scientific research supporting its validity as a medicine, and the widely-known fact that cannabis is a good recreational alternative to alcohol, none of that really matters if the person in question has had a bad weed trip.

And it’s not an irrational fear, either. Getting too high can be traumatic … a horrible, scary, and overall game-ending experience for the cannabis novice. Thankfully, recent developments in products focusing on precise microdosing have opened up weed to a lot of cannabis newbies. Most of these developments have been in the edibles market, but now, with the Omura Series X, microdosing has come to the flower world.

Chic and beyond user-friendly, the Series X by Omura is a whole flower vaporizer that’s perfectly suited for both the stone-cold novice/canna-curious crowd and the intermediate/medicinal consumer.

Basically, they’ve taken the flower vaporizer and simplified the process to its most basic function, then homogenized a precise microdose with each session by employing paper tubes preloaded with tiny bits of flower called “Flowersticks.”

Thoughtful, well-executed, and effective, this is a perfect flower vape for people who are nervous about using cannabis, streamlining the process into a one stop shop for the curious newcomer.

What is the Omura Series X?

The Omura Series X is a new kind of handheld flower vaporizer that uses a proprietary insert — Flowersticks — to provide a consistent, micro-dosed experience for the novice consumer.

Created in partnership with Omura and the award-winning industrial designer Michael Young, the impressive tech inside coincides with a glamorous yet pared down aesthetic, resulting in a device that works great, looks great and feels great in your hand.

It features a patented dual-heat source that vaporizes flower thoroughly and evenly, preserving many of the flavor-packed terpenes that get eviscerated during the process of combustion that takes place when smoking.

What can you vape with it?

The Omura Series X is only compatible with Fowersticks, which are disposable and biodegradable tubes that come prefilled with .17 grams of flower. Each Series X comes with a pack of 12 Flowersticks in Indica, Sativa, Hybrid and CBD.

Omura

I tried the Hybrid and the flower was pretty good, it definitely got me high. The preloaded Flowersticks are what really cements this as a product for novice consumers. Anyone who was really into weed would probably want to load their own with the flower of their choice. However, for someone who is confused about all the different titles and effects flower can have, this kind of preloaded situation is perfect. Just pop one in and go.

How do you use the Omura Series X?

The stand out feature of the Series X is its complete and total simplicity.

Here is a quick start guide to the Series X:

  1. Fully insert a Flowerstick flower end down into the Series X.
  2. Device will turn on automatically.
  3. LED lights will indicate Series X is heating up.
  4. Device will vibrate and all three LED lights will illuminate once when ready to use (about 30 seconds to warm up).
  5. Take long, slow draws and expect minimal vapor.
  6. The vapor will increase with session.
  7. Session lasts about three minutes.
  8. To end session, simply remove Flowerstick from the device and it will shut off.

What’s the appeal?

The Omura Series X not only fills a hole in the market of newcomers looking for a safe, accurate way to consume flower, but pioneers the concept of precise microdosing for flower consumption altogether.

The device is beautiful, it works extremely well, and the process is so streamlined that anyone could figure it out. Honestly, the first thing I thought after using the Series X was that it would be a fabulous gift for a parent or grandparent who’s looking to use cannabis recreationally or medicinally, but had always been too confused or overwhelmed to actually do it.

While the product isn’t necessarily made for a super stoner like myself, I think its importance lies in the group that it caters to. The canna-curious or those wary of cannabis are the people who hold the key to weed’s public acceptance. The fact that this device takes the fear out of using cannabis is truly invaluable, especially at such a pivotal time in its journey from the black market to the stock market.

My only issue lies in the amount of packaging vs amount of flower you are getting. Though the Flowerstick tubes are biodegradable, they also produce a lot of trash. However, it is appreciated that they spent the extra dough and didn’t go with plastic options. Maybe in the future they could offer refillable options to cut down on the amount of waste. Right now, it’s health conscious, but not exactly environmentally conscious.

Overall, the Omura Series X is unique, trail-blazing, and bridges a gap between the novice and mother cannabis. For our industry as a whole, the larger objective is to make cannabis accessible and acceptable to the masses. Omura’s Series X does both.
